Big Relief for Landowners: Andhra Pradesh Government Lifts Freeze on 1.36 Lakh Acres of Village Service Inam Lands

Andhra Pradesh government exempts 1,36,024 acres of Village Service Inam lands from registration abeyance, freehold rights restored G.O. REV01-LANA/214/2026

Amaravati, April 17, 2026 – In a major decision impacting thousands of families across the state, the Andhra Pradesh Revenue Department has officially lifted the registration abeyance on Village Service Inam lands.

After a detailed verification drive, the government has exempted 1,36,024.38 acres of land from the previous freeze, allowing owners to finally register, sell, or mortgage their properties. This move brings immense relief to pattadars (landowners) who have been waiting for clear titles.

What Are Village Service Inam Lands?

Village Service Inams were lands historically granted to individuals who provided essential services to the village community, such as:

  • Barbers
  • Carpenters
  • Blacksmiths
  • Washermen
  • Potters

These lands are different from religious or endowment Inams (which are tied to temple services). The government has now clarified that Village Service Inams do not fall under the Inams Amendment Act (Act 16 of 2013), making them eligible for freehold conversion.

Why Was the Registration Kept in Abeyance?

In August 2024, the government noticed several irregularities, including:

  • Illegal conversion of government lands
  • Ineligible persons grabbing freehold rights
  • Fake claims on paramboke (government wasteland)

To stop this, registration of all freehold lands (including Village Service Inams) was put on hold. A thorough district-wise verification was ordered.

What Has Changed Now?

After completing the verification of 1,38,848.35 acres of Village Service Inam lands, authorities found 1,36,024.38 acres to be genuine. The government has now:

  • ✅ Exempted these lands from the abeyance order
  • ✅ Ordered district collectors to update revenue records immediately
  • ✅ Directed the Registration Department to enable online registration for these properties
  • ✅ Instructed software updates to remove these lands from the prohibited properties list (Section 22A)
